Seven Super Snog Songs
Picture this. You have just said "I do", recited your vows and exchanged rings. It's the climax of your ceremony!
You are about to be announced as a married couple and everyone is waiting for that first kiss (which sounds kinda weird, but let's just go with it).
**SMOOCH**
Everybody cheers! Hooray!!!
What song do you want to hear at that moment? What kind of musical mood would suit your wedding? Something fun and exciting? Perhaps a song with meaningful lyrics? A personal favourite that has true significance?
When discussing music choices with couples, most of the time they already have the perfect song chosen for the beginning of their wedding. Then I ask them if they would like music for their first kiss and the signing, and there is a moment of low-key panic. What? We can choose ANOTHER song?
The choice of music is huge. The tracks I have listed below are not at all definitive, but offer some suggestions for the type of mood you might be looking for. Hopefully the list may trigger some ideas from your own music collection. I would ALWAYS advise using music that you already know and love.
So let's get started with seven super snogging songs for your first wedded kiss.
A note about this list.
Under each song title is a copy of the song on YouTube. I have tried, where possible, to link to the official artist account for all videos. This means the trackshown may not be the actual studio recorded version. For example, the first clip is a live recording.
If you would like to hear the studio recorded tracks, I've included a Spotify playlist at the bottom of this blog.
1. Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours) - Stevie Wonder
File under: Songs literally made for this moment.
We must start this list with this absolute classic! It has everything going for it.
Soulful “yeah” ✓
Driving horns, bass and sitar riff ✓
Infectious chorus ✓
This Motown hit from 1970 is just one of a string of perfect love songs written by Stevie Wonder. Just take a listen to You Are The Sunshine Of My Life, and For Once In My Life.
Perhaps you’re not a Stevie fan? There are plenty of other great tracks that lyrically refer to weddings, saying "i do" and kissing xx
I Do, I Do, I Do – ABBA
Kiss Me - Sixpence None The Richer (for the Dawson's Creek fans)
The Chapel of Love – The Dixie Cups
(Shoop Shoop Song) It's In His Kiss - Betty Everett or Cher
2. All You Need Is Love - The Beatles
File under: The word LOVE is sung 90 times!
That’s right! The word "love" is sung exactly ninety times in this classic by the Beatles. This 1967 worldwide hit is also instantly recognisable and is generally considered a pretty great tune. A safe choice.
Fun fact: All You Need Is Love features "samples" of In The Mood, Greensleeves, La Marseillaise (the national anthem of France) and the Beatles own She Loves You. It was also recorded live on TV with a star studded line up of backing singers including Mick Jagger, Marianne Faithful, Graham Nash and a bewildered Eric Clapton miming on guitar.
Un-fun fact: The Beatles guard their music like a seagull with a potato chip, so the video clip is only 30 seconds long and you won't find this track on Spotify.
3. Halo – Beyoncé
File under: Powerful RnB
There is a reason why she is the Queen. Beyoncé sings with power and authenticity. You believe every word. And this declaration of seeing the best in someone, is no exception.
And the beats are pretty good too. Choose to bring some urban cool to your day.
4. You’re My Best Friend - Queen
File under: You’ve just married your BFF.
Speaking of queens and powerful voices, this list must include a track from one of my favourites – Freddie Mercury and Queen.
The opening line of You’re My Best Friend says it all.
Of course, you could go all out and play We Are The Champions!
Also, if you prefer some saxophone in your smooch, you can't go past You're A Friend Of Mine by the legendary Clarence Clemons and Jackson Browne.
5. Walking On Sunshine - Katrina and the Waves
File under: It's time to get the party started!
You are no time waster and you want to let your hair down and get the party started right away! What you need is a song that signals to everyone that the fun is starting right now.
Kick you your heels and start walking on sunshine!
Other party starter tracks may include...
Happy - Pharrell Williams
Love Shack - B52s
You Make My Dreams Come True - Hall and Oates (one of my favorite scenes from 500 Days of Summer)
Celebration - Kool and the Gang
6. Everything Has Changed – Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran
File Under: When only a duet will do.
A wedding is the union of two people. What could be more relevant than a duet love song? Perhaps you even have a song you like to sing with your partner?
I've included this track because I am a shameless Taylor Swift fan, but there are so many others. Here's just a few...
Islands In The Stream - Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers
Perfect - Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé
I Got You Babe - Cher and Sonny (for when you want your wedding to be like Groundhog Day)
You're The One That I Want - Olivia Newton John and John Travolta
There is something missing though. Where are all the same-sex duets? Seriously, when compiling this list, my search was unsuccessful. I am hoping someone reading this list may be able to offer some suggestions in the comments :)
7. Never Gonna Give You Up – Rick Astley
File under: The beautiful message in the lyric…. Aaaand rick-roll your friends
I’m just putting it out there (and avoiding the opportunity to rick-roll you) because I genuinely think this track is suited to this moment. Ok, so it may be a little bit 80s. There are plenty of covers which may suit your style a bit more.
Ska - The Holophonics
Acoustic - Hannah Trigwell
Jazz - Postmodern Jukebox
